(Call 911 for Emergencies)
The Westwego Volunteer Fire Company #1 proudly protects the residents of Westwego and has been doing so for over 86 years. The fire company operates out of four stations and is combination of both paid and volunteer firefighters. The Westwego Volunteer Fire Company has been rated a Class 2 by the PIAL and ISO since 2002. This results in a reduction or smaller increases in insurance costs for most residences and businesses. The membership takes great pride in providing the best possible service in all emergencies and is heavily relied upon by the community. The fire company is led by Chief Charles Hudson and President Dennis Melancon.
Each year the city also purchases 10 new sets of bunker gear for the department to upgrade their equipment. The fire company recently received a new rescue boat from Jefferson Parish and a Training & Rescue trailer through a $47,000 grant from Homeland Security.
If you would like a free home fire safety inspection, this service is available to Westwego residents. Contact Assistant Chief Manuel Torano, at 504-347-7385, to schedule an appointment.
