Sala Ave. Historic District
Sala Ave. is the City's Historic District. It is currently being redeveloped for the enjoyment of locals and visitors. Of particular interest at present is the Westwego Historical Museum shown at left. It is located in the century-old Fisherman’s Exchange Building (Durac Terrebonne/L. J. Bernard Hardware Store) and features an old time hardware store (early 1900s), completely furnished upstairs living quarters with antique furniture. It also has an outhouse and wooden cistern. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Alario Event Center
The Alario Center enhances the excitement and exuberance of a broad spectrum of events at a fraction of the cost. Multipurpose flexibility creates stylish settings for concerts, sporting events, or theatrical performances. It is a first-class facility used for such activities as the Olympic Weight Lifting Trials. The Alario Event Center, located adjacent to Bayou Segnette State Park, is a state of the art design consisting of 30,000 sq. ft. of column-free floor space, coupled with 4,600 sq. ft. of meeting room space.
